*new* shoes

The one place I never considered might shrink during my weight loss was my feet. Oh, the swelling in my right foot has decreased some over the last few years but even my very nice ECCO walking shoes (the style of which is not made any more) were too tight. I never could break them in as I simply don’t walk enough. Owing to something of an addiction to Birkenstocks, many of my shoes were virtually unworn. In fact, I had a pair of Land’s End walking shoes which were tremendously popular for about 15 minutes in 2002 that I had never even been able to get onto my right foot. In fact, some of those shoes were too tight before I messed up my leg so they really don’t get that excuse.

I lost my shoe addiction after my accident. I’ve had a good pair of Propet walkers for five or so years. I don’t walk enough to wear them out so shoes last a long time. I haven’t had an excuse to buy other shoes and I had a box full of shoes I couldn’t wear taunting me from the closet.

But now, suddenly, I’m able to wear shoes again. It started at Sam’s Club which had some Dearfoam’s Sports – an unlikely mix of slipper and athletic shoe that I tried on figuring, as they are a clog style, that they wouldn’t fit. But they did. And my ECCOs fit now, finally. They were the first shoe I bought when I was learning to walk again. I had the idea that they would be wonderfully supportive for my hobbling gait. And lo and behold, I pulled out my box of shoes that have sat getting dusty for the past seven years and the Birkenstocks all fit. Even those Land’s End walking shoes can be a part of my footwear life.

Oh, some of them I probably shouldn’t wear. Flopping sandals might be hazardous to my health for the time being. But I can wear some of them. My poor daily sneakers will probably feel lonely. My feet have gotten smaller. Isn’t that just amazing?

Amazon recently bought Zappos, you know… But I don’t think I’ll be buying shoes for a while. I seem to have lots!

And yup, TDW, the new old shoes are comfy now!

I didn’t know that. I do know that it’s boot season! Boots stabilize the ankles (if you need a practical excuse). ;)

Wow that would be helpful! Using a cane on the stairs is a hazard. I’ve fallen when my cane slipped off the stair and it’s really not a great support in general, which is why I use the walker most times around the house. I wonder if they’re over here yet. clapping

Doesn’t seem to be marketed over here yet (http://www.stairsteady.net/naidex.html), but wow, what a helpful piece of equipment! Someone over here should partner with her. HUGE market in our population.

I would think so. I’ll be curious to see when it makes it over here. Not that anyone would ever install it in this house, you understand…
